Hi I have a simple question: Is TechNet really worth the cash? I know someone that just had $500 shelled out for the service. But seems as I remember someone saying that exact information that TechNet provides is availalbe on MS's knowldegebase on the Microsoft web site. Waste of money or what?

The knowledge base is available online. Regular TechNet also includes service packs (available online, but it's nice to have the CD - like when you need the 200MB Exchange 2000 Service Pack 2), and resource kits (not available online - very much worth it). The $450 TechNet Plus that the person you know appears to have purchased also includes Beta and Evaluation versions of many MS products. For me, it's worth it. My network is constantly changing to meet the needs of rapid growth in our software development areas, and I need every tool I can get to help it change easily and quickly. Marc Creviere

Yes absolutely!
Even if you only use the resource kits. If you get these separately it will cost 3-4 times the subscription cost. As Marc says the Single User TechNet+ (£240 UK) includes Evaluations & Betas and gives me the capabilities for software testing without paying for a product I may only need for a few days.
