Hi

I need to implement a patch control / application rollout solution. This is to needed to compliment our existing RIS setup for new machines or rapid (or not so rapid) recovery.

Is SMS 2003 suitable for the purpose or could you recommend a better/superceded solution.

Thanks
Si

Well as an SMS admin I's have to say I cant think of a better way in a domain of say 500 MSnodes or more...over 100000 But I'm biased

Not only will you get the above info but you'll get granular control of rollouts, and HW SW inventory, and software monitoring.

With all that said , depending on your size, you probably will need a full time SMS admin or more, but this will pay for itself in a med enterprise in no time.

Thanks for that

I currently have a small setup in a test lab running 2003 server. Our production environment has 15 clients and 60 servers so its not a hugh deal.

I have tried to install sms2003 on my lab domain.....I have sql2000 server on a dedicated windows 2000 server machine.
Having followed the microsoft webcast on installing sms2003 I am experiencing a problem when trying to complete the install. The following is displayed:

Either the SQL Server is in a Windows NT 4 domain or this computer's machine account does not have Administrator's privileges on the SQL Server. To install a site in advanced security, all servers must be in Active Directory and the site server's machine account must have Administrator's privileges on the SQL Server.

The webcast places the sql and sms server together so it doesn't really mention the config of sql on a remote machine.

I have added the sms site server machine to the domain admin group and to the sql server with full priviledges but still get the same message.

Thanks

Si
