This is probably a dumb question, but our project has been entered into the SharePoint world sort of blindly, so here goes...

Our central team is location on an Army base. Our team is at a remote site about 2 miles off base (ran out of room).

Currently, we have a SharePoint here at the remote site, and a SharePoint instance on the base. The two are not connected.

My question is this... Could we host a Web site or page that would allow us to have ONE SharePoint server for all our documents?

As of now, we mainly just use SP for it's Document Collaboration tools... I lead a team of tech writers who produce contract deliverables and documentation.

Now, I use Remote Desktop to access a box on the base, and go into their SP through that box. What I WANT is to be able to have one location that anyone at either site could open a Web browser, go to a Web site, and access our SP information.

Is this possible? Or can SP only be used on an internal domain, meaning that our doc libraries could never meet?

Sorry if this is vague or poorly worded... I just want to figure out how all this can work.

Thanks!

Hello,

I would say that everything depends on how your network and access to each location is setup.

Are you on different LANS? Different Domain?
If you have multiple domains are there a trust between them?

If you have not checked the below guides, then there is a good way to start:

Planning and installation guide for SPS 2003 (might be some useful tips&tricks there)

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administration guide.

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Help

I am running an environment that is accessed from several domains (although within the same Corporation and in the same A.D) and also having external users connection through VPN to access the portal.

Well, hope you can get some more info from the above links. If not please give some more specification on how you are setup and how you would like to connect from the two locations to this SPS server.

Regards,
Thomas
