Hey,

I'm getting very frustrated...I've been working on a portfolio CDRom, but since I've not used Director (8) before I didn't know that you should keep your cast members as externally linked files for the sake of a faster running projector.
As a result I've imported all my cast members internally, and now that the whole thing is almost done...I need to change this to external. Is this possible at all? I've tried simply deleting all the cast members and replacing them with the new ones (linked externally), but that doesn't work. Director 8 has this new function apparantly were you can change the relative path of your cast members with a button in the P.inspector. But this button is only there if your cast member is already an external file.

Please don't tell me I can start from scratch...... :-(

I know, I should've looked into this before I started, but hey....how was I supposed to know....

You say you have tried deleting them from the cast and then importing the cast members again externally. This method, however, should work.
Did you make sure that when you deleted and re-imported yuor cast members that they went into the same cast library and bin number? When you delete your cast members from the cast library without deleting the sprites that reference them in the Score then it should be just be as easy as re-importing them into the same cast library and number bin. This could get tedious with many cast members, so organize your media in a folder on the same level as your .dir file. And in your cast library(s) make sure your cast members are grouped alphabetically in the cast, then it should be just one bacth import.
From what you have stated it was not clear whether or not you did all of this. Otherwise I believe i could not help you further without you being more clear.

You were after all, but oyu do have to import the exact same ones and not one more or they don't end up in the exact same place. Thanx anyway :)

Create a external cast and leave it opened then, selected all items in the internal cast, and move with the mouse to the new one. After this, save your project.
