Hi everyone - Well it's time to get a new home system.

I am considering an IBM NetVista A60, but I'm wondering about the memory that it has... PC800 RDRAM. I know it is more expensive than SDRAM.. I can deal with that. But is RDRAM as fast as comparable SDRAM ?

Someone who sells AMD Athlon systems told me RDRAM may not be around much longer, that there were some problems with it. Yet Dell and IBM have it in their high-end desk-tops, workstations and servers.

Just trying to get the best system for running business apps, web surfing etc.

Seems like it's hard to get an unbiased opinion.

If you have actual experience or knowledge about RDRAM, please reply.

Thanks, John

Depends ...

Since most of today’s applications do not actually utilize the full bandwidth of the memory bus even today, simply increasing the bandwidth while ignoring latency issues will likely not provide any real performance improvements.

What kind of applications do u have ? And do u have a lot of money to spend ?

Best Regards
