I am being told by my engineer that if i can change the card type to a pri it has the enabler code installed"mics 5.0"can any of you verify this.I dont remember ever installing it and i did the upgrade but at 45 i cant remember anything anyway so i could be wrong...

ONLY 23 WEEKS TILL SKI SEASON STARTS

You can go into hardware programming and see if it will let you change it to PRI. If you do not get that option then you need the keycodes.

if you did a startup, you lose the keycodes ...
and there is no way to get the keycodes from the system, if you dont have it written down somewhere

I have done startups where the system ID changes and the old PRI enabler won't work even if you wrote down the keycode. I think this is par for the course; although I have not tried in 6.1 Who would want to risk testing to find out after dishing up all the though for the original keycode.
I think in NRU backup/restore you have the option to back up the system ID number. Haven't tested this either (don't want to risk losing my original keycode.

Any comments?

PRI will not appear in hardware without the enabler nor will it appear in lines

if the system Id changes, and you have the old keycode information safe: then nortel gives a keycode to make your original keycodes to work

just by doing a startup, i've never lost system ID

Nortel will and has given me new keycodes for this in the past.
However this does require opening a case with Nortel and I have been asked in the past for the original PO number.
It's a pain.

not if there is an active contract with nortel ...but yes ofcourse you need to open a case with nortel

i've got keycodes regnerated more than a few times ...

I've found that any type of downgrade, whether it be software or hardware, will cause the system ID to change. A STARTUP should not change the system ID. I'll check out the option to backup the system ID with NRU on Monday.
