Hi,

After publish reports to CE, ODBC DSN name was auto detected. What I want to know is we can change DSN name in CSP programmatically or not? i.e. I have one set of reports, 3 system DSNs against 3 databases (structure are identical). In cr8.5, I can implement it in asp. But I'm not sure in CE.

Thanks in advance !

Ted

There's a sample script by CrystalDecisions that uses RAS to do this. It's mainly intended to be used to convert multiple reports simultaneously, but it should work for your purposes as well.

I'm sorry that I don't have it at this contract, contact Crystal and ask for it.

k,

Thanks for your help. I also heard from technical support person said about same thing. only RAS provide you interface to customize on the user requirement basis.

Futhermore, did you ever mention there is a new promption from crystal decisions for cr licenses, costs $8.500, I can't find it in crystal website, what's that? Could you provide a link? thanks a lot.

Have a nice weekend.

The script I had allowed you to automate changing all of the DSN's for multiple reports in CE using the RAS add in.

The CE 8.5 upgrade price is based through their reseller channel, if you use one of the large resellers, contact them. We had a hard time getting it because the resellers had to call Crystal to get the part number for it, but we DID get it at $8500 for 5 licenses.

Do you mean $8500 to get additional 5 licenses? for one additional license is around 3k+ as I know. That is far from our user requirement. We will have more than 200 users working on the application everyday. Our project manager contact with them already, for unlimited license per CPU is more $70k, that's why we purchase Crystal enterprise version. My god, seems we have to purchase RAS edition to get what we want. Do you know how much is RAS edition and any other editions behind CE? Seems not end.

Your help was highly appreciated !

The last I heard on the CPU license, it was about $50K.

$8500 is for 5 concurrent (or named) licenses and the CE 8.5 software (sold as an upgrade to the freebie CE 8 that came with Crystal Reports 8.5).

You'll have 200 users requiring View on demand reports each day, or 200 users in an application that may call reports?

5 licenses should handle 50 occasional users well, especially if you minimize the View on demand seats being taken by scheduling as many of the reports as possible for automated delivery.

No doubt about it, it's a pricey product, but not as much as ePiphany and some of the others.

The way I easily sell the product is because of the scheduling, distribution, and instance storage.

As far as RAS goes, you only need it if you want users to be able to modify reports themselves, and to do a batch conversion of DSN's.

If you design the reports intelligently, you shouldn't ever have to change the DSN.
