Howdy -

Is SharePoint Portal Server something extra that you have to buy? Is it not included with the SharePoint Services?

I've got SBS2003 which comes with WSS. My boss dumped all these books on me about sharepoint portal server and I'm totally in the dark. I don't see anything about portal configuration in my admin console. I'm up to sharepoint 3.

thx,

MOSS 2007 is a separate, additional-cost product, and also requires SQL Server to work.

See The Sharepoint site for details.

that's what I thought...

just needed a confirmation.

MOSS 2007 can use SQL 2005 Express for a single site install. You won't be able to upgrade your farm later if you want and this configuration is normaly used only for very small installs or non-production environments...but yes you can use the express edition.
