Is Paradox 1 ODBC-compliant ?

Hi Paradoxers,

We want to convert our Paradox data to SQL Server 2000.

This is a very old version of Paradox - Version 1 I think (circa 1997)

We are considering purchasing a tool that can copy/convert any ODBC-compliant database --> SQL Server.

But we don't know if Paradox 1 is ODBC-compliant....

Does anyone know ?

It depends on which Paradox 1.0 you're talking about. If you're using the DOS version, the odds are against you. There have been multiple format changes since Paradox/DOS 1.0 and I believe that the Paradox Engine (which was used to help create the original support in ODBC) did not support Paradox 1.0 tables. (I may be wrong on that, but I seem to recall that Paradox 2.0 tables were the oldest supported.)

On the other hand, if you're using Paradox for Windows 1.0, then, yes, those can be accessed from ODBC. Pdox/Win 1.0 created Paradox 3.5 and Paradox 4.0 tables. ODBC supports both versions.

We're runnning this Paradox 1 db on Win 3.1 now so,

if I understand you correctly, my db is probably ODBC-compliant, right ? (We will be converting to NT4 and SQL Server 2000 db)

Isn't it fun to work with this old stuff ?

If it's really c. 1997, then it may not be ODBC compliant. Paradox for Windows wasn't released until 1992.
