Hi to all.

I'm just wondering if the information contained in the OLN (Oracle Learning Network) is worth. I checked a free video, but it lasted only 5 minutes.

I'll be working with Oracle 8i in 2 weeks, and in the last 3 months, I purchased 6 books on Orale (DBA, PL/SQL, Tuning, Recovery, etc...).

If anyone is registered to OLN, please give me some feedbacks.

ps: they have a promotion for OLN. 99$/3 months. This offer ends August 31th.

Thanks ''Life is like a box of chocolate...''

Hi Dzidze -

The answer is it depends. Naturally.

It sounds like you are new to Oracle8i - and there is a lot to learn. However, how do you like the format of the classes on OLN? Some are much longer than the 5 min one you took, but most are around 15 minutes or so I'd say.

There is a lot of info out there - but there is also a lot of gaps in whats available. As an example - there is a lot of information out there about what 9iAS can do, but very little on _how_ to do it. They seem to be adding stuff all of the time though.

My company is an Oracle partner, so I get my membership for free. I doubt I would pay for it myself unless I was actively studying for a certification or, as in your case I was trying to get up to speed on a new (to me) oracle product.

If you like the format of the classes and have a need to be educated (don't we all!) than I'd say do it, but don't expect it to be the be-all end-all way to learn Oracle stuff.

Hope that rambling helped...

Hi Bob.

Thanks for the tips.

Actually, I'm not too fond of the format, but like you said, I'm new to Oracle. I know there is a lot to know about it, so I guess I should get my hands on everything that comes my way.

What is good though, from what you said, is the fact that they tell you a lot about the capacities that you can get with it. ''Life is like a box of chocolate...''
