IS not decreasing 1

Hi guys,

We are at 14GB on our 5.5 IS, We deleted 2 gigs of emails last week, we came in this morning and the IS hasn't got any smaller, even after the weekend. Anyone know how why it don't get smaller, or if it will eventually?

Mike,

The physical size of the IS won't get any smaller until you do an offline defrag (eseutil /d /ispriv if memory serves). However, if you look in the event log (Application) on the server you should see 1221 events which will tell you how much free space is available within the IS.

And unless you really need the disk space it makes no sense
to shrink it, more efficient just to leave the empty space there.

Do you use deleted item retention? ie: mine is set to 30 days, which means no matter what I delete today it will remain in deleted retention for the next 30 days.
