By like startup stuff is below, is this router messing up? The stuff towards the bottom I haven't seen before.

it periodically states

"00:05:51: %IP_SNMP-3-SOCKET: can't open UDP socket
00:05:51: Unable to open socket on port 161"

is this a problem? I'm trying to use this in a home lab config for my CCNA.

Never seen this error message before but I have looked it up at the cisco site:

According to the error message decoder at the cisco website:

[qoute]
%IP_SNMP-3-SOCKET: can't open UDP socket

The SNMP server was unable to open a port for receiving or transmitting SNMP requests. This error usually occurs when the SNMP server is started using the snmp-server community configuration command on a router or communication server with an interface that has no IP address configured. Another possible cause is low memory.

Recommended Action: Configure at least one interface with an IP address or specify the no snmp-server command to remove the SNMP server process. Contact your Cisco technical support representative if problems persist or if it becomes necessary to add memory.
[/qoute]

Hope it useful,

Regards,

Fatty

Yeah---you have SNMP enabled on the router, and nothing is being monitored. Is there a config still in the router? I always save configs that are still in routers that I get from Ebay, just for fun, then I erase start.

Yup still had a config, but I did erase it

I swear I did an erase of nvram, then rebooted. Shouldn't that do the trick? It did prompt me to go into the configuration mode stuff.

Thanks for the info on the cause, I hope that didn't just change, lol.
