As a proactive-based systems integration company, we'd like to use a network monitoring program such as MOM so we can watch the status of all our client workstations, server, and networking equipment. Plus we want our customers to have access to a read-only console via the web. We are looking into MOM, but it seems awfully expensive.

We have access to MOM Workgroup Edition but since its max is 10 servers, that doesn't seem feasible.

Any suggestions on what we can do?

Thanks

Hi,

I wanted to let you know that our solution might be something you want to look at for monitoring the end-user experience. Further if you do pursue MOM we are also integrated into MOM.

Take a look at .

Thanks,
Rick

A couple of things you need to know about MOM:
*It won't monitor client workstations running XP.
*It won't do much (out of the box) monitoring now MS software or devices unless you buy plugin devices or use SNMP.

It is best served monitoring a data center running most if not all all MS apps.

JC64,

Can you recommend any products that can monitor clients (XP) and servers?

Thanks

Hallo,

have a look at Novell ZenWorks and ZENworks for Desktops. It's a mature product which can integrate Active Directory by DirXML. Sounds crazy - but MOM can't.

After quite a lot of configuration effort by a extra recruited specialist MOM works more stable - though not comparable yet to other products. Some difficulties left with W2K. Performancemonitoring works fine.

I have to agree about MOM. It is for datacenters that run all Microsoft servers and have similar applications. We have installed MOM but have had a lot of problem trying to make it monitor the things we need to monitor. MOM is really an all or nothing product. For example if you have 20 SQL servers and want to monitor the same threshold for all the servers it is great. The problem is if 5 of those server have a different thresholds, then it become difficult to monitor that. There is no granularity like NETIQ or other products that do the same thing but are usually more expensive. Well that is my two cents on the product.
