Is it Yahoo.com or something else?

A friend has a curious problem. Whenever I send an email to his Yahoo.com address, I get back an apparently automatic response the content of which consists of the letter "i". Last night we discovered that it happens to everyone who sends email to that account. He is aware of it but has no idea how to fix it. The PC is the one he uses for business, which I'll assume is a PC vs. MAC. It may also be networked to other PCs in his office. Is this enough information to venture an educated guess on? Any ideas on where to problem lies and how to fix it?

I would guess that it's some sort of autoresponse set up within yahoo mail. To test, send a message to the account & don't check it with the friend's pc. If you get the response without the pc involved, it's something on the server. If you wait a good lenght of time without this automatic response & then only get it when the friend uses the pc to get his mail, then it must be coming from the pc. What you haven't mentioned (& it might not be relavant) is how the mail is being received/checked - using a regular mail client (paid version of yahoo mail) or using yahoo's web interface.

Smah,

Thanks for your suggestions. The problem has been fixed. My friend's wife, who works with him in the family business, just informed me that she fixed the problem. Her husband swore he hadn't set any automated response on his Apple. But she double checked and he HAD set one. She unset it. That's what keeps us guys humble.
