I put my floor standing speakers too close to my monitor, (yes, well I know that now!!) the screen went funny like it does when a mobile rings near it, since then the bottom left corner (near where the speaker was) is showing incorrect colours, does this mean it is time for a new monitor or is it worth enquiring about getting it fixed, if that is possible.

Thanks

Usually when you start them up from a cold start, they automatically degauss themselves. If they don't do that, then Radio Shack has cheap degaussing coils that will correct it. Follow directions carefully that comes with the degaussing coil.

Of course, if you had a 19" LCD monitor they don't do that!!!

Side story, I had a tv once I had thought was pretty cheap, I had a speaker outside of the casing that I had set on top of it for a couple days. The tv figured out how to auto-adjust itself somehow so that the colors were correct even with a speaker magnet on top of the box (that's why I didn't notice to remove the speaker from the tv).

Removed the speaker, the corner went a deep purple color, though in a couple days the color was back to the correct colors. Don't know how the tv achieved this, but it did.

So give that monitor a few more days, could auto-correct itself.

Anything with a CRT has auto-deguass when cold start-up. The auto system is fairly weak (don't want to scare the user on boot-up), so it will straiten out eventually. I you are in a hurry: take a soldering gun, hold it about 2 feet from the screen and turn it on. Move in a circular pattern a few times and slowly move it back a few feet (while keeping it on all this time). When 2-3 feet away, go ahead and release the "on" switch. Be careful not to burn anything during this time!
