I'll like to confirm
I have an RS6000 S80 12-way Processor and 6GB Memory
Yet I still have I/O bottle necks, its like the response of the machine is not much better than my old H50 with 4 processors and 1.5GB memory

How can I solve this problem

What good is a Corvette on our crowded expressways here in Chicago ? Yes - check your I/O configuration.

Bill.

Take it you had trouble getting into work this morning, Bill? ;-)

2339,

So here's the third person: check your i/o configuration.

I was in a development situation once where, because of temporary disk space constraints, all the disks for a medium sized database were connected to the same I/O card. A query that on the production system (which still had well-balanced I/O) took 20 minutes was still running on the development system after 18 hours! The disk space constraints were resolved very soon after that.
