hi all,

This may not be the best forum for this question but...

Like most folks, I have a broadband/cable connection, so I'm always connected tot he Internet.

At night, I have been closing Internet Explorer but leaving the PC on.

Will not running IE lessen the chance of getting some kind of attack or virus? Maybe it's a silly idea, I don't know.

Thanks, John

Closing IE is always a good idea when not in use. Keep all anti-virus software up to date. If logged onto anything on any web site, logg off before closing.

Only because of the resources that an open browser window consumes. From a security standpoint, there is no impact--on a Windows 98 or later machine, IE is always running, since it's the shell.

jkupski,

Aha... now that you mention it, I do remember seeing IE in Task Mgr Processes active even after I had closed the browser.

So, no security advantage. Shucks.
Thanks for the infor. John
