is it possible to use sql mail without setting up MS exchange

is it possible to use sql mail without the need to install MS exchange client/outlook on that server ?

Absolutely. Look into CDO or CDONTS with SQL Server OLE Automation.

Here is a link from MS on it.

I'm assuing you are on SQL Server 2K sense 2005 does not require that deal with outlook.

i'm indeed usen win server 2003 and sql 2005.

If your using SQL 2005 why aren't you using database mail? It uses SMTP.
