We have had problems on customer PCs where new BDE-based Apps are installed and the BDE then loses our alias settings.

To get over this we are wondering if it is possible to load a copy of the BDE local to our application and use this rather than the default (registry-based) one. We have experimented by removing registry settings and having several programs set up with local bde, and they all work OK. However if there are registry settings these always are used.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi,

Start using the components Tsession and Tdatabase in your applications. They make it possible to make an alias on runtime. So the only thing you need is the BDE to be installed.
With Tsession you create a session. This session you use with al your TTables and Tqueries.
With the Tdatabase you create your alias name. This aliasname you also use with you TTables and Tqueries.
The help file has some examples. How to use them exactly
