I have First Name and Last Name combined in a calculation in two files.

Can I use this calculation as my primary key in a relationship?

what is a way around this? I don't have any other possible primary keys

filemaker cannot index calculations, so using them in a relationship is not suggested by FM. Personally, I always use ID numbers as primary key's.

Wherever did you get that from?
Of course you can use calculatin fields as primary keys. Firstly, they can be indexed. Secondly, the primary key doesn't have to be indexed anyway.

Cheers,
Paul J.

yes i realize that was misleading and i apologize. I was recently having an issue using a calculation field in a relationship where the calculation referenced values in the related table and I was having many problems.

schloggs right, just ignore me- i must've had a brain fart

I know the feeling! How is it that the worst ones are the public ones? (Poooooo!)

Cheers,
Paul J.
