I'm using VC++ 5.0, and I just installed Service Pack 3. I'm also running Windows 98SE. I have plenty of computing power (P4/2.8 ghz), I just happen to like 98SE and it has performed well so far.

I followed the instructions for modifying references (1 so far) to althost.h, changing the reference to althostlic.h. This is the error I get now. I thought installing Service Pack 3 might help, but it is still the same.

C:\Program Files\DevStudio\VC\ATL\include\atlhostlic.h(35) : fatal error C1189: #error : Review if this file can be used with the version of ATL you have. Refer to KB article Q228530 for information

If I MUST upgrade (no other alternative), is VC++.net 2003 the one I want? I care mostly about multimedia functionality.

I'm hoping there is another way to upgrade my version of ATL.
