Having a problem with arc-serve / windows 2K backup:

Tape 1/2 is fine.. restores with no problem
Tape 2/2 does not restore - it does not recognize that it is 2/2 in backup.

OR

Tape 1/2 is not available at all.

Therefore do you know of anyway in which we can restore 2/2 independently of first tape?

If the sessions you are looking for starts on Tape 2, then scan the tape to determine the session number, then Merge only that session (not all sessions). You should then be able to restore from those sessions.

I have not tried it, but it may be possible to do a sequential merge to create new CAT files. This will take several hours to complete, but you may recover the data. Set the following registry key before running the merge:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\Base\Task\Merge]
"DoNotUseCatalogMerge"=dword:00000001
