Hey :)

I've written two books that I know want to have as one. Is there a function in Indesign for "merging" these two files so they become just one indd file?

Thx in advance.

Jon

...not easily that is for sure, the book function was developed for merging separate multipage documents together, allowing auto numbering without the need to be manually shuffling pages from one document to another...

...manually using the pages palette is the only function I'm aware of, drag and drop the pages in sequences into one document, but caution is probably advised when using this method...

...I'd keep your documents together utilizing the book function, print the whole book to postscript and distill to pdf to have all in one completed document as an end product...

Hey!

Ok, seems like it's gonna take a lot of work :)

Thx for your reply.

...it may help to tile your windows to view the documents side by side...

window > arrange > tile

As long as you've not actually used the "book" finction in indd, but only created 2 docs, it's pretty easy. Go to the last page of the doc you want to be the first part of the new, combined doc. Show the Pages window

Open both indd docs and go to Window menu/arrange/tile. Make the second (to be last part of book) active and select all the pages in the pages window. Drag these onto the last page of the first doc and they'll be added to that.

You're best off using copis of both docs, so you can't mess up the original

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

If you just want the two books back to back, another option would be to create two pdf files and combine the two using Acrobat...
