okay guys,

My company is recommending me to pass all these exams in one year and there going to pay for my books and exam testings. Do you think its easily possible. I know i will be studying each and every night for a year straight. How do these compare to the ccna exam. I ended up purchasing the MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit and I plan on hitting the books starting april 1st. Say by by nights for me for a year straight.

forgot to mention I am a network administrator for a company so I use the servers and active directory on a daily basis.

10k in raises will come as soon as i pass the mcse exams too. So it really motivates to make sure I do it.

Not only is it possible, it should be fairly easy. That's 4 tests in one year, or one every three months.

I've seen people do them each in one week. So it's possible.

Can't compare them to CCNA as I don't hold that cert.

It is indeed possible. It took me 9 months to get my MCSE so what you are looking to do is very achievable.

so is the Mcse self paced training books a good place to start for me. What exam should i start first. Thanks for the replys everyone.

dmb2002man,

Have you already taken the client OS exam (70-210 for Windows 2000 or 70-270 for Windows XP)? You'll need one of those for your MCSE, and if you haven't taken it yet, you should start there.

From there, most people do them in order, 70-290, 70-291, 70-293, 70-294. Note that after this you'll still need a design exam (70-297 or 70-298) and one elective, so you could be taking up to 7 exams within a year to achieve MCSE.

It can still be done, but it's more than 4 exams.

I passed all 7 exams for the MCSE on 2003 in a 5 month span, taking a test every 3 weeks. However, I was in a class whose curriculum was designed to be done that way. The class was only 8 hours per week. We used the official Microsoft Press books and did everything hands-on. At the end of each unit, I spent the weekend leading up to my exam taking the practice exams repeatedly.

So, yeah, it shouldn't be any problem at all doing them in a year.

hey everyone!

Is the TestOut MCSE helpful in passing the exams.

I know for the 70-290 it says 50 hours to complete.

Version: 2.2
Estimated time to complete: 50 hours, 0 minutes
Description: This course prepares students for exam 70-290 (Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment)

Is that about the same as reading the book except its videos.

In my experience you need a combination of materials to get you throught the exams. I used CBT's and the MS Press books when I was studying. I was already an admin working on windows networks which obviously helped as well.

I can't comment on testout as I've never used them but I can reccommend these;

I only used TestOut for 70-294, so your experience with 70-290 will probably be different.

TestOut does two things well.

The animations that show you how to configure a certain thing are, in my opinion, very well done. It's easier to remember the configuration steps when you can see it in action, rather than static images in a book.

The other thing that TestOut does well is simulations, and so far they're the only company that I've seen include them in their test package. The simulations are not the same as what you might see on the exam, but they're in the same kind of depth.

I also agree with pagy that there is no one package that will prepare you 100% to pass the exam. At the very least, you'll need a combination of hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge. Good luck with the exam!

passed my ccna exam 3 weeks ago with a 961/1000 on it. I have been reading the 70-270 exam book now and im scheduled for the exam on april 18th. My goal is to pass all 7 exams in less than 6 months, working fulltime as a network administrator and being on call on the weekends.

The books dont seem near as big as the ccna so im thinking with no doubt i can do it if i study on my lunches and come home and study for 2 hours every night. I work on servers, domains, raid 1, vpn connections, remote desktop, exchange servers and soon to be alot more at work.

I will keep everyone posted.
