I wonder if anyone can advise me whether its possible to install MS SQL 2005 Enterprise on a Vista Home Premium OS machine?

Everytime I try and install I get the following warning (amongst other things)

IIS Feature Requirement

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.

Iv'e tried the following

Howvever IIS in Vista Home does not show Windows Authentication under Security so I cannot set this. After ticking all the other boxes and installing and rebootting I'm stll getting the same error saying Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled even though I can do localhost and see a page

If I ignore the warnings and just try and install MS SQL then everything is greyed out and the only thing I can install is books online.

I am at my wits end. I hoped to use my my machine for development and I had hoped to install win 2003 server on it as I had on my old machine, but as my new drive is SATA the win 2003 server disk doesn't recognise the hard drive so I canot install anything pre-Vista. i tried Virtual PC but its just way to slow to do anything with. I can't afford to buy a win 2008 server disk.

Thanks
Andy

Andy,
Instead of Enterprise buy SQL Server Developer edition. It costs about $60 and it can be installed on every OS you have.
Also, Developer edition has all possibilities of Enterprise one.

I am going through the same thing and have concluded you have to upgrade Vista. When I bought the computer, I asked everybody I could find about that issue and got many shoulder shrugs. Apparently, you and I are the only people trying to run SSRS off a home addition of Vista.

After you do the install you need to apply the Latest Service Pack and things should work without any issues. I would recommend the developer edition as well unless the ent is an MSDN issued version of SQL Server ENT.

Thanks guys but decided its probably easier to just install win 2003 server on my machine. I have an enterprise version of SQL from work, and it sounds like I'd need to buy Vista ultimate. Having tried win 7 and seen how good it will be I don't want to invest in a copy of Vista.

Must be a generous company to give you a 14K - 25K piece of software to run at home.
