I have a network connecting to an intranet web site through gateway 10.203.141.65 . The PCs have addresses 10.203.141.66/67/etc. Is it posible to set up another router on the network to allow access to the internet and a mail server? Will 2 gateway addresses work?

We gateway via a T1 to the internet by setting the DEFUALT gateway there, any address we do not understand is an internet address, and use another router to our corporate office, all those subnet's routes are defined in the router.

Router A would beleive all intranet subnets were next hop Router B, Default routes were external

Router B would beleive Router A was its Default Router and know the next hop for all intranet subnets The one thing you can't give for your heart's desire is your heart. - Lois McMaster Bujold

Just wanted to clarify what Jimbo said. As you are now, you don't need a gateway address since everyone's on the same subnet. The gateway address is the address to go outside the local network. Since access to the outside network is probably through that same router, you don't need to change any of the current gateway addresses for access to the internet -- the routers will handle it.

Use always only 1 default gateway. (put here your Internet router), then
Add static route for the rest of yor networks:
add -p route (ip destino) mask (mascara destino) (ip router) (numero entero representado la metrica)

Hope It help.

hi shrigz
in our case we have a token ring And Giga bit based LAN and Mail and Intranet from leased lines from ISP's so we do have several gateways, but One router.
To access mails and Internet you can have OUTLOOK or maybe sendmail of Solaris, linux etc, these can be forwarded to a gateway with 2 NIC.One having your Internal IP and subnet ,and the other having the external or Fixed IP.YOu may have Win NT/2000 ,with MS Proxy running to serve you internet, mailing needs,or else you may have a linux box 7.4.2 ,and enable the firewaling and IP translation feature to save the same purpose with better security.

2 gateway is certainly ok.
The computers in your net already have at least two gateways, one is the computer itself, the other is 10.203.141.65,is it?
If the machine addressed 10.203.141.65 have access to Internet and your Mailserver, you need do nothing ,everything is already OK£»
If not, you need add a new gateway to your routelist.
