hi,
I was formatting my hard drive, when I installed Windows 2000, I delete the external hard drive partitions as the computer detected, I know I was wrong, but then when the setup is finsihed, my computer can recognize the drive, but it can't read it. It requires to format the drive. So, are there any possible ways to get the data back without formatting the drive?

Thanks

If you have symantec tools, may try NDD (yes DOS version is there). It usually recovers extended partitions accurately. If data is much important, try to get Easy Recovery from Ontrack, which will recover the files. If you are trying the bootable partition as it was before running fdisk, though not suggested but is possible thru Norton DiskEditor in Advanced Recovery Mode.
Best of the luck.

I had a similar situation and was able to recover 75% of my data even AFTER repartitioning and reformating. The key is that the disk CAN NOT be written over the existing data. I used LOST AND FOUND (If you can still find it) which cost about $75. It was well with the price to get back 3 years of scanned photos and stored Newsletters that I had put together.

The only problem I found was the short name limitation so there will be muliples of the same file (depending on how often it was saved) and you have to sort through to fine the most recent version.

It also does not work on NTFS systems, but systems will a FAT16 or FAT32 can be recoverable. Oakwind
