Is there anything that does? Is Adobe dreaming in that direction?

I have heard of a translators app called Trados. Very technical and expensive. But for the cost/learn curve does it do an accurate job?

We are famil9iar with "recosoft".

Reading reviews and product small print does not generate confidence that this will do a professional work. It may be more accurate to have Acrobat dump a Word document and redefine styles (which are retained to an extent) and do the layout again.

Thank you for answering.

...the problem is PDF is intended as final format really, and PDF files can come from anywhere and built using differing methods, so it will be difficult to get 100% accuracy when trying to do a round trip...

...right now recosoft are pretty well the main developers with getting PDF directly into InDesign...

...in short if PDF2ID isn't used, then you will have to go the longer route by rebuilding...
