Here is my delima. We are currently on a shared T1 line. All email we get is handled by GroupWise 5.5 via "ourcompany.sharedname.net" (fictitious example, but structure is accurate). In a little over a month, we will be getting our own internet connection and would like to resort to using our website email "@ourcompany.com" instead.

We have contacted our host and they can adjust MX records accordingly to direct traffic our way to our IP address.

However, I am confused about what all needs to be created under the GroupWise view in NetWare Administrator. I would like users to be able to keep their current mailboxes, and just have the new website email directed right to those mailboxes. We would no longer use the old "ourcompany.sharedname.net" email address that was shared before.

Would I need to create a new domain while keeping the existing UNC path? Can a new domain share the same UNC directory structure that used to be part of an old domain?

Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks.

- Matt.

Mateo1041,

I'm not really sure why you're concerned about the UNC directory. You're not making any changes to the server are you, like moving the MTA, POA, or Domain?

If I'm understanding the question correctly, all you need to do is make a change in the domain so that it recognizes the new domain name. I'm making the assumption that you are using Internet Addressing.

1. In GroupWise 6.0 you would open ConsoleOne and select the domain object.
2. Choose the Tools->GroupWise System Operations->Internet Addressing menu item.
3. Create a new Internet Domain Name.
4. When the switch occurs, you'll want to go back to this location and set the new Internet Domain Name to be preferred.

I'm not completely sure what the steps are in GW 5.5 using Netware Administrator, but I'd guess that it would be pretty similar.

Like I said, I'm not sure I completely understand what you're asking. But as I interpret the question, the above is the answer you're looking for.

Feel free to clarify if I'm wrong.

Darkshadeau,

Thanks. I did try ConsoleOne, but did not see an option available for "Internet Addressing". I also unfortunately did not see any options to create an internet domain name. With the NetWare Administrator, here is what my current tree looks like:

o SHAREDNAME
...+ OURCOMPANY_DOMAIN
......- MTA
......- GWIA
......+ OURCOMPANY_PO
.........- POA

Based on what you are saying, I should create a new domain under the SHAREDNAME? I did try that, but it didn't give me very many configuration options. Would the UNC for this domain be the same as the one for the current OURCOMPANY_DOMAIN?

I'm sorry if I sound kind of new at GroupWise management, because I am. :)

It sounds like you have several companies that operate under the same roof, each with a different company name. If that is correct you can configure your GW system to handle multiple Domain.com's. I have had 5 or 6 different Domain Names all using a single Post Office.
If you can supply some more details GW ver., NW ver., Etc.,
we can help.
I too use a single T1 and manage 5 different Domain Names on it. One server runs GW6 w/4 domains names and another server runs GW 5.5 with a single domain name. We have 1 ISP and 2 Web Hosts all 5 MX records point to the same IP address. So I think what you want to do will work.

Thanks Ken. That does indeed sound similar to our situation. Here is some extra information. We are running GroupWise 5.5 along with Netware 6.0. So far, I've tried adding a domain, but got a little lost after that as there weren't any options or settings to configure.
