Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, however I'm abit seasoned with the RAP team that was supporting the POS' at my fish rest. (quick serve).

Not wanting to bore anyone with the details of my experience with RAP, I'll say only that the server they sold me went belly-up(they used a pentium ii processor, but sold me a pentium iv). I was wondering if any could advise me in whether repairing the unit sounds feasible (i.e. replacing motherboard, processor)and if such repair would require the re-installation of the POS software.

The issue is that I have 2 stores (one still operates the Aloha POS)and i'm the financial guy of the group who owns the stores; not really that IT saavy. I'd like to know what options maybe available for me to jump start the system without the drama. RAP's solution is to shake me down for another $3.5-4K server charge...anyone?

4K sounds high. If they are getting you for labor, maybe take it to their office for them to move your data over for you and then pick it up and install the new one yourself.
Repairing the unit is feasible. You shouldn't need to reload software from upgrading a motherboard.
I have seen someone smatter than me perform the following solution.
Bought a complete new computer w\o Windows operating system.
Put their POS server hard drive in it.
Put in a Windows disk that matches the operating system loaded.
Run a Windows repair so the everything will mesh.
Install needed drivers for new system.
And it worked.

May be a little more to it, but you get the idea if you know an IT guru to do it.

Thanks DTSMAN....your post has given me some hope...unfortunately what I've found out last night is that in a misguided attempt to repair the server, the hard drive was erroneously re-formatted (TFW!).

I read a post in the forum that said the software can be purchased separately (I think is was approx. $900).

The two options I'm considering are:
1) buy the software separately and re-install; here I question if there would be any version conflicts with the register and the latest software

2) Is is possible to image the server that is currently operating? and would there be a user license conflict.
