I am having problems downloading Mcafee virus scan. It only goes approximately 80%, then I get an error message. I have incorporated the recommended security procedures by Mcafee to no avail.I suspect IE6 may be causing the problem since my wife's IT office mentioned IE6 was a problem with her computer in an unrelated area. They reloaded IE5.5 on her system and all is well. I am unable to remove IE6 in order to reload 5.5. The usual methods, add/remove programs doesn't work. It should revert back to the previous version but it does not.I'm not afraid to delete it from the registry but haven't seen what I feel is the IE6 package in the registry. We have had problems in the past, while taking tests for example, having the next question not respond. With many many attempts, I have been able to continue to the next test question. My wife has had the same problem with tests she took. Again, I'm wondering if IE6 may be causing the problem? I get my downloads from Direcpc satelite and use a 56k modem for uplinks.

Before you go tearing things off your pc, have you done the basics, such as scannign for spyware? Try this freeware scanner...killer tool: Use it and see what it finds and what effect removal of such might have on your pc. Eliminate this and maybe a few other easy steps before you go uninstalling. I realize your IT people may be on the ball, but there are a lot of machines out there running Win2k and IE 6.0 without the problems you're having. Also, while we're at it...do have SP1 or the first release of 6.0?
