I am having a problem with Veritas BackupExec..my raid controller is on IRQ 15...now veritas is telling me that IRQ 15 is dedicated to Netware so I should change the IRQ of my controller..are they full of crap??

I have no idea why Netware would need to be dedicate IRQ 15..

Thanks

There is a section in the TID below that may help - I didn't quite understand it, maybe you will (I only read it the once!):

-----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

yaa, i saw that doc after a posted this..it says IRQ 7 and 15 are the high and low points for IO devices. I new IRQ 7 is for printers (lpt1) but IRQ 15 I never had a problem in the last 10 years. with hardware and CPU's changing all the time, who knows??

Thanks

Hi

Yes they are full of crap - What version of BackupExec are you running and what type of backup device ?, some versions run better than others and all require patches. Sometimes they will have you update the firmware on your drives and controller.
If your Veritas software is not the lastest build which they are recommending then request a copy. Patch your Netware server to the latest, if you don't they will use that as there next excuse.
When you have a working combination - document it and stick to it.

Provogeek, thanks good info! thats like the TID I read from Novel support as well.

I talked with compaq a little about this and they said that IRQ 15 gets alot of traffic. I am patched up fully with veritas and novell as well as compaq. compaq said I should move my controller to another IRQ.

I will do that and see what happens.

Thanks
