Are the following OS names the same thing?

1. HPUX 11.23 itanium
2. HP Itanium 2
3. HP 11i v2

11i V1 is for HP9000 servers, PA-RISC processors

11i V2 is for HP Integrity servers, Itanium based processors

I understand that 11.23 is a release of 11i V2, for the Itanium based machines.

HP continues to invest and make enhancements to HP-UX 11i v1 while it looks to the future with HP-UX 11i v2

In time the entire HP range will be Itanium based, I guess.

Thanks!

I guess 'IA64' means 'itanium based processor' or maybe 'Itanium Architecture 64 bit'

That's right yes, and it only comes in 64bit flavour anyway.

Hi,
The middle one

2. HP Itanium 2

Is the name of the hardware.

Intel has

the Itanium Chip ( Merced )

and the

the Itanium 2 chip. (McKinley)

much like

Pentium (565)
Pentium II,
Pentium III
Pentium 4.

11.22 would run on the Older Itanium chip.

with 11.23 HP dropped support for the older version ITANIUM CHIP and it only runs on the ITANIUM 2 CHIP.
