Is having a dedicated IP really that important in terms of rankings?

Hi all,

Is having a dedicated IP really that important in terms of ranking high in major search engines? Since majority of the web host I ran into only offers shared/static IPs... and when they do give you a dedicated IP, it starts to get a little pricey... please advise, thanks in advance! =)

Short answer, No!

proviso: Just so long as you aren't sharing an IP with spammers, p0rn sites or dodgy FFA sites.
