is encoding ignored in innerHTML ?

Are there any problems with encoding in Javascript.
I have an HTML page that uses Hebrew(ISO-Visual) when I try to print a part of the page using innerHTML the text is formated icorrectly - and it does not allow me to to select an Encoding option. If I print the whole page using window.print everything is OK.
Thanks for any help.
