Hi all,

I thought of creating a DNS server in AIX 4.3.3. I was thinking that I should download bind from bullfreeware.com and then install it.

But it so happened that I just got to see this "/usr/samples/tcpip/addrs.awk and hosts.awk" scripts and just executed as my system is for testing purposes.

Voila it made my job easier and here my DNS server for LAN is up. I am able to use this from all my workstations and clients.

I would like to know whether bind is bundled with AIX 4.3.3? Because if I give lslpp -L bind* I am not getting anything.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I got a right book on AIX about nameservers and stuff like that. Now I am clear on it and made my DNS server a real one.

Bind4 and bind8 are provided in AIX in bos.net.tcp.server.

By default it uses bind 4. In /usr/sbin there are 4 files

named4
named4-xfer
named8
named8-xfer

plus 2 symbolic links
named
named-xfer

By default these 2 links point to named4 and named4-xfer respectively. To use bind 8 change these links to point to named8 and named8-xfer
