In the past couple of weeks, I haven't been able to connect to the gnutella network using Limewire. Supposedly the older versions no longer work, but I tried their telnet test and couldn't connect, so their web site suggests that my ISP is blocking them now. I have a firewall and router, and run Win2K SP3, and have not changed any of this. It worked fine with this HW and SW, so I suspect AT&T. Anyone know if they're blocking filesharing?

i don't have it, but a friend does and he downloads crap all day long on imesh, kazaa and morpheus. so if it were true, it don't cover the dallas area.

also, if you think about it, wouldn't that be a very bad move for a ISP as competative as they are? i would switch for that reason alone. ;-)

No, it wouldn't be a bad move. They are a monopoly here. I can't switch. There is NO other broadband provider in this part of New England. I'm also too far from the switching station (about 4 miles) for DSL, so it's either dialup (tie-up) or put up with these jerks.

Why else would I accept 20% price increases more than twice in a year? ($30 to $36 and now $42.95 per month)

thats true but they're not a monopoly in alot of places and if they did in fact TRY to block gnutella it would be very "gutsy", i'd think.

you should feel lucky to pay only $42.95, the average around here is from $45 to $50.

did you ever figure the limewire out yet? have you tried any of the others?

Just installed version 2.9.11 - it works. So AT&T isn't blocking yet.

glad to see it working for ya and that they haven't started to try and screw the internet up! :)

Broadband is Comcast, was owned by ATT. ATT does NOT offer Cable Access directly.
