Is ARP Connection oriented or connectionless? It uses TCP, but does that consider it connection oriented?
In the same sense would the following be connectionless too: HTTP, SMTP, SNMP, POP3, Frame Relay?
My understanding is that TCP by definition is connection-oriented. Although I believe an ARP request is connectionless as there is no acknowledgement process. UDP would be connectionless as it is send and forget protocol.
Connection-oriented protocol services are network services, that provide acknowledgment after successful delivery, and automatic repeat request functions in case of missing data or detected bit-errors. ATM, Frame Relay and MPLS are examples of connection-oriented, unreliable protocol.
