I'm new at this, so please bear with me. I would like to be able to find out if anyone is logged into my intranet server before bringing it down to make an update.

I did a search on this forum, and found a thread from a week or two ago about this same thing, but, unfortunately, I did not understand the directions. I'm not sure where to find what he was saying to look for.

I have remote access to the server from my workstation.

Also, if anyone knows of some good books or tutorials, so I can figure out how to drive this thing, I would appreciate it. Obviously, I did not set this server up to begin with!

Thanks, everybody! Calista :-X

Calista,

If you go to computer management(right click my computer and manage) and shared folders - you can list users connected to specific shares, sessions (both remote and local and a list of open files)

From here you can disconnect all or individual users
if you like.

Hope this helps

antonoli,

I did as you suggested, and I saw a list of computers on the network, but could not tell if anyone was logged in. I logged in just to see the difference, and nothing seemed to change.

Welshguy,

I also tried your suggestion. Again, nothing showed except my administrator guest account. It showed the same thing whether I was logged into the intranet or not.

Thanks, guys, but I still seem to be missing something. Calista :-X

Now try "netstat" at command prompt.

It will show u all connections with ports.

I m sure this will satisfy your needs.

Good Luck :)

That's the piece I was missing. Thanks! Calista :-X

Calista ,

Just occurred to me you could also use srvmgr(NT server manager) still works on 2000.

Just run srvmgr - select computer then users will list all current users logged into the machine. You can also disconnect from here.

Cheers
