I have a HD with a few partitions and files. I could technically do without these files, but if I could keep them there I wouldn't mind.
There's one partition with more than 400 Gb available. Would Win10 be ok if I install it there?
Or am I better off formatting the whole HD first?

Thanks guys

If it was me, I would copy those files to a back up disk and format. Window always seems to work better with a clean drive. Having said that, if that partition is bootable, you can install it on there and keep your files. 400 GB is definitely big enough.

2ffat,
When you say "a clean drive", do you also mean to remove all present partitions? (Will Windows make its own partitions as needed?)

Yes, windows will make the partitions it needs.

When I "wipe" a computer here at work, I boot from a USB, delete all the partitions on the hard drive, and click "Next".

Windows takes care of the rest.
