I have a customer that has a SX200 MX ICP controller with some mitel 5215 ip phones. I dont know much about the new IP stuff from Mitel and was wondering if this controller can do SIP as the protocol? Sorry for the ignorance but i have to learn somewhere.

To error is human.....if the machine doesnt work, then KICK IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The SX-200 does not support SIP in any form.

5.0 and 6.0 might bring something, but you never know ;)

Hi Telnettech,

Since release 6.0 (I think) Mitel have enabled SIP within most of the Mitel IP Phones (which need to be Dual handsets)

Mitel release 7.1 software which has SIP extensions enabled, this means that for example you could get a cisco phone which is SIP enabled to connect to a Mitel system.

On top of this Mitel have also enabled SIP trunking which can be used in 2 ways, 1. connect to some sort of application server 2. connect to a service provider i.e. SIP trunks to the outside world.

Mitel are about to release version 8.0 software which has many features becoming available via SIP that has not been available before.

Hope this helps

Andy

Ensure you understand that Andy is basing his answer on the 3300 ICP and not that of the SX-200 ICP (MX) that you inquired about.
