I know this is an odd question but can I use a Legend 008 OPT w/ring gen, (clam shell removed) card in a Magix V4 without doing any damage? It seems to line up, fits well and seats tight in the carrier back plane, but I haven't power it up yet..

Thank you all for great advice over the years,

Mike

The main difference between the Legend modules and Magix modules is the lack of the "clam shell" housing that are used on the Legend modules. The other would be non-supported modules like the 408 ATL for the Merlin Classic sets. I am not aware of any incompatibilities with the 008OPT module in a Magix sans the "clam shell".

There may be some similar cards that would be too old for WINSPM to recognize. (Which means that if it works, it may only be administered with STANDARD SPM, but if it doesn't it just doesn't)

I have such a module in my System, so I am restricted to use only Standard SPM.

Jim and Jack,

Thank you both for the info.

Still have 33 Magix systems running, some in the Legend carrier and some in the "tuna" can.. Nice to know you can use them out of the shell in a pinch.

Did I misunderstand you, Mike? It sounded like you were putting a Legend card (without the clamshell) into a "tunacan" Magix. I don't think they'll fit even without the plastics around them!

Now the other way is a different story. And yes, I've had to do a "ghetto" install of a Magix card in a Legend B/P without the plastics. I don't recommend it at all, but it will get you by in a pinch until you can get a clamshell in.

Tim, yes I think you have it right.

I took an older 008 OPT made for the legend, took the shell off and added it to the "tunacan". It fits surprisingly tight in the carrier slot guides and looks kind of funky, but like you said, in a pinch it's a good sub.

"Ghetto Install", that's a good one!

Thanks again to all,
Mike

Yes, they fit just fine. It's best to get the Grey "Handle" for it though. Which is usually not a trick if you are replacing an existing one, but if you are building from scratch.......
