Is a Barton 2500+ factory unlocked?

I've heard that AMD is now locking their Barton core processors on the higher mhz range....does that mean that their lower Barton Core procs are (like the 2500+) factory locked? As well, is it worth the extra money from the 2400+ to the Barton 2500+?...thanks

All XP's from AMD are locked at about week 39, 2003. I understand Mobile processors are not locked.

There's not much of a price difference between a 2400+ (Tbred) and a 2500+ (Barton). You'd want the 2400+ on a 266Mhz board and the 2500+ on a 333Mhz of faster motherboard.

As skip says they are locked at about 9 Months.This gives you pleanty of time to overclock if that is what you want to do.
I have the 2500+ Barton on an Asus - A7V8X-X motherboard.
I have not had any problems with the pc except when i accidentaly courrupted direct X! ARRRGH!!
But yeh a 2500 is locked after about 9months 39 weeks.
Its not locked by default

No motherboard can unlock these CPUs and there is nothing that can be done to bridges or pins that can change the locked multiplier because they are not connected to the circuitry.
