Hello all,

I am almost too embarassed to ask, but I need to migrate a customer's databases (7.3 and a 8.0.5) to 10gR2, following the recommended upgrade path. Because these are desupported versions, I cannot find the 817 Enterprise for Windows installation cds anywhere. My previous customers seems to have tossed their CDs.

Any assistance to a download link would be appreciated.

Zahier,

how about doing a full db export in your early version, building a blank database in 10g2, and then db imp?

It seems to me to be a lot less hassle than upgrading across so many versions, especially as if you hit a snag, you are using an unsupported version.

is this reasonable and/or feasible for you?

Greetings

In order to export to 10gR2 directly the version you need is 8.1.7.4. Any version prior to this will not import into 10gR2 However, I have a suggestion.

I would first install 9i and migrate the two databases to this version and then onto 10gR2

Thanks for the suggestions. I am leaning towards importing the databases into 9iR2, seeing as the 9i import utility is backward compatible with previous versions' export dumps. Also, both the source databases are tiny....10GB and 5GB.

oradba101, I read that the upgrade path is to first go 8174 and then 9204 and then 10gR2. Hence the reason I was looking for the CDs.

All import versions can import a previous database version export file. Do the following.

Create a full export of the 7.3 database using the 7.3 export utility.

Create a new empty patched database in 10G

Use the 10G import utility to pull in the export from 7.2

Easy...

Actually, what I am saying is that you don't need version 8i rather you should be able to migrate to 9i directly then to 10gR2.

Bill

I have tried migrations on versions earlier than 8.1.7.4 and unless something has changed 10gR2 would not recognize the export file.

Strange, Oracle always support previous versions of export for import. I had an Oracle 5 database and was able to export and then import into an Oracle 9i database with no problems. Are you sure that you were not trying to use impdp for the import, data pump will not recognize export files, but 10G still has the imp utility available.

I just imported my 8.0.5 dump, done with 805 exp utility, into my new 10.2.0.2 database using the 10g imp utility. Worked like a charm. Just have to get the users to verify the data integrity, though.
