I have one 9031MDW on our system, and I'd like to add another. Is it necessary to mount the transmitters in a 117A4 case for two or more to work on the same system? This could be done but it would be inconvenient. What happens if you don't use the 117A4 and try to run them separately? Thanks!

According to the manual:

"Your TransTalk system may have from 1 to 24 wireless phones. In order to use multiple wireless phones within the same zone (area of coverage), you also need a carrier (also
known as a backplane)."

The manual describes several troubleshooting scenarios where problems result from lack of synchronization between radio modules. The 117A4 backplane provides that synchronization.

I have not tried multiple non-synchronized cordless sets.

Yes. If you use two or more radio units they must be used with the carrier.

I know of a few sites where they have two and no 117A4. They work but I can't recommend that route.
