Is it possible to copy and paste an object from illustrator, and then convert it to an image/text box?

Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question, but you can create irregularly shaped image boxes in InDesign using the various pen tools, all of which work the same way as they do in Illustrator.

Have you tried to copy and paste, and then setting the type of the box (or just placing the desired item)?

I am only assuming that you have created an angled image frame with borders in Illustrator and now want to use it in IND, which will work if you save the image as an .ai file at the correct page dimensions. Then place it with place function of IND.

Hopefully I had the right idea of whatyou were looking for,

Thanks for your tips, but what I want to do is to use a shape which I have already created in Illustrator, as a image box in Indesign.

I don't want to have to re-draw this shape within Indesign.

Thanks again.

I'm almost positive that a simple shape copied out of Illustrator and pasted into InDesign becomes a box of undefined type there (which you can then convert or just place what you want). Is it not working?

Genimuse, once the object is pasted into indesign, I cannot specify the content of the shape (Object>Content). I assume this is what you mean?

Yeah, that's what I meant, sorry it didn't work. You may be out of luck, then. I know they're editable in ID, so I assumed they could be containers.

So you can edit imported vectors in Indesign? How is this done?

I think this is what you want to do . . Try selecting the frame which holds your placed Illustrator graphic with the black tool. Make it a clipping path via Object-Clipping path. Then with the black tool still selected (the path will be assigned to the graphic) get the sub-menu from the image (as the object is selected) control-click on mouse and in the sub-menu Convert path to frame. When you click on the image with the white tool, you can now import an image into this and use it as an image box.

I hope this is what you want to do.
