Has anybody noticed how on some pcs (i.e., new Dells), that if you go into Device Manager, IRQs go up to 23? What is the deal with this. Some devices are using IRQs of 17, 22, 23, etc...

I never noticed that before. I wonder if they have increased the address space to allow more devices. Mike Wills

I believe I heard something about this...people were starting to have so many devices that they added another loopback IRQ number...don't know if I'm using the correct technical term. I'm glad they finally did this...hopefully it will help with some resource conflicts people have! :)

Hi friends,
As now a days the computers are coming with on boards, seprate PCI slots & USB controller's ( 2 Front & 2 BAck ) & IRQ's are seperatly assign to the each & every computer.

Now the new version computer having Windows Xp operating system you will there are 23 IRQ's in which :
17 IRQ is assign to Sound card, 18 IRQ is assign to modem, 19 - 23 IRQ are assign to USB controller's.

So, they have increased the address space to allow more devices.

thanks & regards.
