I'm running the arcserve 7 client for Netware. We do not load the IPX/SPX protocols drive by design. Is it possible to edit the config file of NWAGENT so that it won't load IPX/SPX.

It seems that we cannot exclude IPX/SPX in the nwagent. In the asconfig.ini file, add "IPAddress=123.456.789.abc" in the [netware Agent] section; this statement will force the agent to use this specific address, assuming you can have two or more IP addresses defined on your server.
Define the agent object in ArcServe Manager, giving the exact name of your server and its IP address. I remember of a Registry key to specify the agent protocol, but not exactly the exact name. Try to search on support.ca.com to find it; you don't need to use it, as the backup server will use TCP/IP if you define the agent with an IP address.
Good luck
