iptables: "/usr/sbin/iptables: no such file or Directory"

My system is suse 7.3 with kernel 2.4.20
after a successful compilation of "Patch-o-matic" and "Iptables-1.2.7a" and after reboot the system iptables hase the version 1.2.2.
i wanted deinstall the old version by the original suse cdand now i have the error message by starting iptables: "/usr/sbin/iptables: no such file or Directory".
what's going wrong?
why?
please help me
