Can anyone explain the differences? Did some research and the terminology seems different everywhere you go. Does anyone have a real handle on this

My understanding based on a CISCO IP seminar is :

VoIP - this is Voice to an IP phone/softphone whatever.
IPT (IP Telephony) - this is the connection/interconnection of IP enabled switches using IP communications, e.g. IP Trunking, etc.

Make sense??

If I'm wrong, anyone please let me know.

Cheers,
NJ

PS: Please let me know if my advice has been of any use.

IPT means that its IP from the handset, and IP the full way through..

VoIP means that its TDM in some way..

like IP trunking on the definity.. Thats VoIP, because its TDM most of the way, but converted to VoIP between the TDM switches..
